Chargers Celebrate 50th anniversary season

The Chargers will be celebrating their 50th season in the NFL when they play the Oakland Raiders Monday, Sept 14th at the Oakland Coliseum. Hopefully the results are the same as they were in the inaugural season. The Charger beat the Raiders 44-0 in that game on Sept. 17, 1961. Oakland is coming off its worst losing record since they went to the Super Bowl in 2002-03 season. They have a combined win-loss record of 24-72 since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers destroyed them 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII. Oakland has a better all-time record against the Chargers at 56-40-2 and they will have nothing to lose, since everyone expects them to. Celebrating the inaugural season in style, the Chargers players will be wearing the 1963 replica uniforms. The helmets will bear the players numbers on the side and their shoes will be all black. So let's start the inaugural season right Chargers and beat the worst team in football!

Trouble Before the Season

Chargers Pro Bowl linebacker and free agent to be, Shawne Merriman, is in deep water again. On Sunday morning at 3:45 am he was arrested and charged with alleged battery. He was also accused of false imprisonment. His accuser was failed celebrity and reality star Tila Tequila (Tila Nguyen) This is bad news for the Chargers whose season starts in less than a week against the Oakland Raiders. Merriman's behavior off the field is making the prospect of signing a long-term contract at the end of the season seem bleak. Merriman is one of the most popular Chargers Linebackers since Junior Seau and to loose him to free agency would be catastrophic. His 39.5 sacks and 189 tackles during the Charger's 06' and 07' seasons are the most out of any player in a two year span.
